Pet shop boys (and girls) to the rescue in Rustington

But for staff at Rustington’s Pets at Home store, it proved to be the “purr-fect” money-spinning idea, drumming up more than £400 for an animal rescue charity.

And now employees at the store have presented a cheque for £426.38 to Worthing and District Animal Rescue Service (WADARS), following a successful fund-rasing drive during the festive season.

As part of the pet shop chain’s national Santa Paws fund-raising scheme, over the seasonal month, staff turned up to work at the store dressed in their morning best, wearing colourful pyjamas.

During the past few months, the shop, at Rustington retail park, in New Road, had also been asking customers to round-up their shopping to the nearest pound, with all the surplus loose change being donated into the charity collection.

Assistant manager at the store, Angela Houghton, said: “This has been a brilliant year for us so far.

“WADARS is such a fantastic charity, which we have supported for several years.

“All the staff just love doing their part for the community and to help raise awareness of the store’s Support Adoption for Pets campaign.”

Tony Thorn, fund-raising manager at the Worthing-based charity, praised the staff and their generous customers for their support and hard work.
