Proposal to create hundreds of Bognor jobs welcomed

As reported, Hanbury Propeties has achieved another milestone in its objective to add significantly to the employment space available in the town.

Its scheme for another 188,000sq m of general industrial space on Oldlands Farm has been backed by Arun District Council.

The developer estimated its proposal would support up to 425-585 jobs when the site was fully occupied. The firm showed traffic generated by the uses could fit on to the existing roads.

Among those who supported the proposal for the site off the A29 was the Bognor Regis Regeneration Board.

Its advisor, David Myers, said: “The regeneration board was very pleased to be able to support Hanbury’s planning application.

“This important site is now forming the core of the Enterprise Bognor Regis offering with the prestigious Rolls Royce Motor Cars’ technology and logistics centre open and fully operational.

“The board is confident that the commitment of the developers, along with the ongoing support of Arun and board partners, will result in businesses being attracted and establishing themselves in Bognor.

“The availability of this new employment space underlines the key strategic positioning of Enterprise Bognor Regis in coastal West Sussex.”

Cllr Gillian Brown, the board’s chairman, said: “This is a further important step forward in pursuing our objective of providing an improving economic environment in Bognor.

“It is expected that other Enterprise Bognor Regis sites will be brought forward to widen the choice of employment space in a competitive market.”

Enterprise Bognor Regis consists of four adjoining sites which cover 70 hectares. A local development order is being finalised for three of the plots of land.

This will grant permitted development rights for business-related development to speed up any suitable plans to create new jobs.

The Bognor Regis Regeneration Board was established in 2007. It brings together leading representatives from the key public, private and community stakeholders in Bognor.

The board was formed because of the recognition a collective and cohesive approach would generate and secure the economic benefits sought by those who live and work in the town. It is not a part of, or subsidiary, of any organisation or agency.
