“Several of our staff have tested positive for COVID-19, so we feel it is the responsible decision to close the pub and have it deep cleaned.

“We have notified Public Health England and Track and Trace, so anyone who has been affected will be notified.

“The decision to close the pub was made by us, we were told by PHE we could remain open. However, we feel we have a duty of care to you all and will be closing for a few days, deep cleaning and ensuring everything is as safe as possible.”

The spokesman confirmed all staff who have been in contact or have tested positive are now shielding.

They will not return to the pub until their symptoms have gone and their shielding period is over, they said.

They added: “Please join us in wishing those who are poorly a safe and speedy recovery.

“We thank you for your understanding and look forward to seeing you once we reopen.”
