South Downs Wiston wine wins Gold at international awards

The South Downs Wiston Estate has this week received a gold award in the UK Vineyards Association International Wine Challenge.

The Wiston Blanc de Blancs 2010 was picked as winner just a month after the estate was chosen to partner with the ‘Exporting is GREAT’ event in London.

The evening hosted by Number 10 Downing Street and the Cabinet Office marked the start of a week organised by UK Trade Investment encouraging British exporters to seek out new opportunities around the globe.

Lewis Scott, UKTI South East regional director, said: “English wine is an international success story, putting English sparkling wine from the South East firmly on the global map.

“The range of English wine on show at the Exporting is GREAT Partner Event at Lancaster House that are successfully exporting to markets as diverse as the US, Sweden, Australia, Japan, France and the Caribbean is a testament to our excellent producers embracing the huge opportunities overseas.”

Wine producing is a recent addition farming life at Wiston, owned and managed by the Goring family since 1743. Since 2006, the chalky south facing slopes have been the perfect environment for producing many acclaimed wines one of which was used by The Queen to launch P&O’s largest cruise ship, Britannia.
