Work is going on in the background to get the pools open, according to Eastbourne Borough Council (EBC), which runs the leisure centre.

A council spokesperson said, “We know a lot of members are eagerly awaiting news on the pools being reopened.

“Unfortunately we do not have any more news to share on this just now, but please be assured a lot of work is going on in the background, and as soon as we can open them we will.

“We know it’s frustrating and hope to have more news very soon.”

The council said it wanted to reconfirm that all memberships will remain frozen until at least August 31.

Further correspondence will be sent out to members ahead of any memberships being reactivated, the spokesperson said.

“EBC will also be offering an extended freeze at the point that memberships are reactivated,” they said, “so that if you do not feel ready to return at that time, you will not have to and your membership can be left on hold.”

The leisure centre had been closed throughout the covid-19 pandemic, with some facilities – including the gym and fitness classes – reopening with the easing of lockdown measures on July 25.
