West Hoathly brewery shares its craft on national TV

A micro-brewery in West Hoathly has appeared on Channel 4’s Food Unwrapped programme.

Missing Link Brewing, at Chiddinglye Farm, featured on the popular programme last month.

It saw presented Andi Oliver visit the brewery to understand what makes a ‘hazy’ or ‘cloudy’ beer and why they are finding favour again.

Andi met Dan Gale from Lost Pier Brewing, one of a collective of microbrewers who uses the facilities at Missing Link Brewing to create his own range of craft beers. Dan explained that proteins found in the oats and wheat used in the brewing process contributed to the beer’s hazy appearance.

Polyphenols, which are naturally occurring in hops, oxidise during the fermentation process, which also adds to the beer’s cloudiness.

Andi also joined Missing Link Brewing owner Jeremy Cook to taste a range of the brewery’s new own-brand IPAs.

Commenting on the filming, which took place at the brewery last summer, Jeremy said: “We were thrilled to open our doors and demonstrate the production of modern craft beer to viewers nationwide.

“We’ve received a fantastic reaction from friends and members of the public who have seen us on the programme and we look forward to extending a warm welcome to visitors to our brewery and tap room this year.”
