Drive-throughs typically conjure up thoughts of burgers and bargain buckets.

But Langham Brewery is bringing beer into the equation so their customers can still enjoy a cold one during the lockdown.

Found in the South Downs National Park between Lodsworth and Petworth, West Sussex, the brewery has also launched a delivery service to customers within a 15-mile radius in an effort to keep the business alive while respecting the law.

Lesley Foulkes, co-owner of the brewery, said the response from their regulars had been ‘wonderful’ and added: “People need a sense there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and a sense of normality in spite of everything going on.

“Being able to sit down and have a beer is one of life’s little rituals, and while you can’t go to the pub, you can sit in the garden with a few nibbles and video call some of your mates with a bottle of beer.

“It isn’t quite the same, but it is still living. There is hope.”

The idea came about from Lesley and co-owner James Berrow after the Government forced pubs to close: 85 per cent of their trade.

Being a microbrewery they could react quickly, and the home delivery service launched on March 21, keeping a self-employed member of staff in work.

Another beer that was going to be kegged is now going to be bottled, adding a new drink to their range.

Despite having to furlough two members of the team, Lesley was determined to keep going, and keep safe.

Based in an 18th century granary barn, the brewery car park is large enough that customers can observe social distancing while ordering and collecting their beers.

The team have won 46 awards since opening in 2006.
