Worthing luxury care home celebrates successful first year, including supporting community groups and charities in the area

Worthing luxury care home Merriman Grange has celebrated a successful first year, including supporting community groups and charities in the area.

Worthing mayor Cathy Glynn-Davies joined guests and residents for a birthday party with buffet lunch on Thursday, April 9.

She presented bouquets to Sheila Dixon, the first resident, and home admissions advisor Jan Marples, the first member of staff.

Jan said: “We're just so incredibly proud. We're now employing 55 people in this community and developing them, so they've got lovely careers ahead of them.

“It's really important that we're part of this community here in Worthing, particularly Broadwater and Findon Valley, and we work closely with and support local charities and organisations.”

Worthing & Adur Chamber of Commerce, Safe in Sussex, Sight Support Worthing, Friends of Sussex Hospices, Andy's Angels, the Sussex Cancer Fund and the Community Dementia Hive in Ferring and Lancing are among the causes which have benefited, including free use of meeting rooms.

The home also has a monthly First Friday Breakfast Club, where emergency workers are welcomed for a complimentary breakfast.

The birthday gathering was not only a celebration, it was a time for reflection, remembering the good times residents enjoyed over the past year and paying tribute to those who are no longer with us but will never be forgotten.

Natalie Birch, general manager, said: “Today is about recognising what we have built together over the past year and sharing that pride with residents, families, colleagues and friends, and also our wider community.

“First and foremost, I'd like to thank our wonderful residents for making today possible and for celebrating this first wonderful year together with us. I'd like to thank our families for your trust and ongoing support and our team members who give us so much of themselves every single day.”
