Brilliant Brighton calls on local artists to help ‘Dress the City’ for the summer

Brilliant Brighton Business Improvement District (BID), formed of 500+ city centre businesses, is inviting local artists to apply for an exciting opportunity to help transform the city centre as part of its much-loved ‘Dressing the City’ summer campaign.
The annual initiative sees Brighton’s city centre streets brought to life with colourful, eye-catching banners, welcoming residents and visitors throughout the summer months. For 2026, the theme is We Love Brighton; with artists asked to submit applications that celebrate everything that makes the city special, from its creativity, history, seaside charm and fantastic array of city centre shops, restaurants, cafes and more!
The selected artist’s designs will be reproduced as large-scale banners and displayed across key city centre locations including Western Road, North Street, Market Street and Bond Street, adding joy and vibrancy to the city centre.
Artwork will be installed in time for Brighton Festival in May 2026 and will remain in place throughout the summer. The commissioned artist will receive a £1,000 fee, along with significant exposure as thousands of people experience the display each day.
The brief is intentionally open, encouraging artists to interpret We Love Brighton in their own distinctive style. Submissions are encouraged to be inspired by and reflect Brighton & Hove’s vibrant, diverse, and family-friendly character, with a focus on colour, energy and all the things to celebrate about our seaside city!
The banners will form part of this year’s Dressing The City campaign, which will also feature cheerful bunting in North Laine and The Lanes, plus bright and beautiful hanging baskets.
