Mayor of Lewes opens anti-racist gig

Lewes Mayor Cllr Imogen Makepeace formally opened an anti-racist gig run by Love Music Hate Racism and Lewes Stand Up to Racism yesterday.

She addressed a crowd of 50 people who came to Lewes Con Club to celebrate community and diversity.

Lewes Football Club Chief Operating Officer Kelly Lindsey accepted an invitation from Lewes SUTR to attend with Head of Women’s Football Lynne Burrell and members of the women’s team.

Attila The Stockbroker led the list of acts with local bands and musician Rabbit Foot, Strange Neighbours, Isaac Jengwa and DJs Tony Kalume and Danny Webb.

In her address, Cllr Makepeace stressed the importance of community and building cultural ties in the wake of Far Right violence over the Summer across the UK.

A total of £580 was raised for Love Music Hate Racism and Lewes Stand Up To Racism – a group set up just after the riots in August of this year.
