Knitting for Happy Baby Community

At our November meeting we heard from John Butler a volunteer with TWAM (Tools with a mission). This charity encourages communities and church groups to collect tools, as well as money towards their refurbishment.

The charity has two refurbishment centres in Ipswich and Rugby where the tools are assembled into kits suitable for builders, electricians, mechanics etc. and sent to Africa. John gave various examples of people who because they had the tools were able work and earn money to feed and clothe their families and send their children to school. Apart from benefitting those who receive these kits, it is preventing tools from ending up in landfill where they would degrade and pollute our soil and water systems. It was inspiring to hear of this work being done by volunteers.

We support the Happy Baby Community by knitting blankets and woolly garments for babies of refugees. Each month we have a small collection of items which are sent to this very worthwhile charity.

We are looking forward to our December meeting when we shall have our Christmas celebration. Each member will bring a plate of finger food to share as well as a small gift for the Secret Santa raffle. We will also be entertained by the Lewes Ukele group which is always a treat.
