Peacehaven Town Council installs its first litter picking station for volunteers

The litter picking station is an on-street litter picking equipment store, which allows volunteers access to equipment as and when they want it.

According to the national charity, Keep Britain Tidy, more than two million pieces of litter are dropped in the UK every day, equating to 23 pieces of litter per second with the economic impact and cost of littering in the UK being £1 billion.

It is hoped that this installation, placed next to The Gateway Café, will enable us to keep Centenary Park litter-free.

The Mayor of Peacehaven, Cllr. Debbie Donovan, who officially unveiled the provision, said: “Last week, Lewes District Council’s Environment First team delivered a Litter Picking Station and volunteer litter picking equipment to Peacehaven Town Council!

"Myself and a group of councillors and officers met today to use the equipment for the first time. This is a great initiative for local residents wanting to help keep our community clean & tidy.”
