The Raverly to bring 90s house classics to Bognor Regis for charity

A night of 90s house music is coming to Bognor Regis next month, with The Raverly set to raise money for two charitable causes.

The event will take place at The Waverly, Bognor Regis, on September 5 from 4pm to midnight. All funds raised will be donated to the Girl’s Empowerment Centre (GEP) in Nepal and Last Night A DJ Saved My Life.

The Raverly will feature two distinct sessions, with DJs taking to the terrace from 4pm to 8pm before the action moves into the main room until midnight.

Eliza Pink, Jackmaster O, Mark Challacombe, Sarah Chapman, Spikey and Tor Lloyd will perform sets of house music classics from the early 1990s.

Tickets cost £10 in advance, with every purchase automatically including £5 worth of raffle tickets. The event is strictly for over 25s.

One of the main beneficiaries will be the GEP in Devchuli, Nepal, which supports vulnerable girls at risk of abuse, marital slavery and trafficking.

The centre provides education, counselling and vocational training, as well as programmes covering menstrual hygiene and self-defence. Originally launched in 2018 with 24 girls, the organisation has since supported 27,000 people.

Organisers say the centre has helped challenge deeply entrenched cultural beliefs and stigma surrounding girls and menstruation, including practices which previously forced women to spend their periods in isolated animal huts.

The fundraising effort will receive an additional boost from James Holdsworth, COO of Last Night A DJ Saved My Life, who plans to travel to Nepal for an eight-day trek to raise money for the GEP. His fundraising target is £80,000.

Last Night A DJ Saved My Life is a charitable foundation which uses the power of music and art to support grassroots projects benefitting children and young people in the UK and developing countries.

Its work has included supplying music equipment to educational and community organisations, providing clean water, funding cleft palate surgery for children, and delivering education and art therapy to young people affected by social exclusion and inequality.

The foundation aims to bring together people from the electronic music community and beyond to make a practical difference through fundraising initiatives.

James has also commended Rob Chamberlain, landlord of The Waverly, for his support for the local community. According to James, Rob is highly community-focused and donates a large proportion of what he takes behind the bar.

With its combination of early-90s house classics, a raffle and a clear charitable purpose, The Raverly is aiming to turn a night out in Bognor into a significant fundraising effort for projects supporting young people both locally and overseas.
