Students at Steyning Grammar School have raised £3,813 for the NSPCC as part of the school’s annual Jailbreak fundraiser, held on Friday, December 9.

Sixth formers dressed as inflatable Santas, The Avengers, fairies, Despicable Me’s Gru and The Minions to visit local high streets, offices and schools collecting for the children’s charity.

Carole Naunton, chair of NSPCC South and Mid Sussex branch, said: "This will go to support NSPCC services like Childline and help the NSPCC be there for children, everyday."

It was a freezing cold day but the public gave generously to the teams of fundraisers, stationed in Brighton, Hove, Steyning, Henfield, Worthing and surrounding areas.

Jailbreak has been a school tradition for the past 30 years, with students ‘breaking out’ of school using a variety of different vehicles and taking to the streets to raise money.

Assistant headteacher Claire Monahan said: "Jailbreak is a school tradition and this year’s event was absolutely fantastic. We were thrilled to raise so much for the NSPCC, given how difficult times are at the moment.”
