The Archdeacon of Chichester Luke Irvin-Capel thanked the headteachers and teaching staff who have continued to work, “to educate and care for those keyworker children who have been coming into our schools.”

He reached out to those who are working tirelessly to find solutions for low-risk environments in order for pupils to return, and said he understood the frustration that comes with this extremely difficult task. He said: “Thank you to all those of you who have committed more time and energy, preparing our school buildings, making all the necessary preparations, ready to welcome those children back and receive them in the appropriate and safe ways.”

The Venerable Luke Irvin-Capel, who is Chair of the Diocesan Board of Education and of the Diocese of Chichester Academy Trust, also imparted gratitude to parents who have been home schooling their children as a result of the pandemic, and “continue to provide an education for those children who have been remaining in their own homes. Thank you for all that you’ve done in these very challenging times, and all that you continue to do.”

The Archdeacon attributed the humbling hard work and success so far to “The spirit of generosity and of service, seeing and serving Christ in our most vulnerable, ensuring that our children are able to fulfil and reach their God-given potential has been at the heart of the response of schools across the diocese.”
