Arundel CSI proves a hit with children

YOUNGSTERS at the Arundel Church of England School donned their detective hats as part of a crime scene investigation day.

About 30 pupils from year five dressed in forensic suits for the day, working as a team, alongside Claudine Bishop, of Sussex Police, to solve a grizzly classroom murder.

The junior detectives had to piece together clues left around the classroom to help crack the case.

CSI Miami fan, Nick Fisher, nine, took part in the day. He said: “It was really fun.

“We had to follow a trail of fake blood and pick up loads of clues.”

And nine-year-old Brandon Smith added: “The most fun part was when we had to do the finger prints.”

Pupils used police tape to cordon off the room from the rest of the school, while they worked on hunting for the vital clues.

The day was set up by deputy head teacher, Nicky Metcalfe, who is also the year-five’s teacher.

She said: “In doing this the children used an impressive range of cross-curricular skills to follow the evidence, explain what happened, and identify the culprit.”

The CSI topic will now continue for the rest of term, with visits from various experts already in the pipeline

Head teacher Andrew Simpson said: “This is a way of extending the curriculum and making it more exciting.”
