Burgess Hill District Lions and South Downs Nurseries in Hassocks have donated 24 rowan trees to Downlands Community School.

This donation of England’s oldest species was in aid of the Hassocks school’s Eco Club project and in celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Downlands is hoping to create an internal courtyard garden outside of their library to provide a quiet space for contemplation and reading.

The groundwork is taking place during the school holidays ready for planting in September.
