Primary school children can now take part in the Brighton and Hove Buses environmental design competition.

To enter, children are asked to think about actions that have a positive impact on their local environment and write a sentence about them.

Entrants must illustrate their action by drawing it into the shape of an ampersand (&).

Two winners, one from key stage 1 and another from key stage 2, will receive a family day out on board one of the company’s Sprit of Sussex coaches, free coach travel for a school trip, and eco-friendly goody bags.

Shortlisted entries will be displayed on television screens inside the new electric buses in the city.

Brighton and Hove Buses managing director Martin Harris said: “We’re asking children to get their brilliant ideas down on paper and transmit their passion for the environment.

“I know there are many children out there who are already having a real, positive impact on their environment; we want to showcase what they’re doing and applaud it.”

The bus company has contacted all of the city’s primary schools about the competition and some will allow children to work on their entries in class.

More information and entry worksheets can be found at the Brighton and Hove Buses website.

The deadline for receiving entries is 6pm on March 23.
