Nicky Metcalfe left Arundel CE Primary at the end of term after more than six years to take up her new role in Chichester.

Mrs Mercalfe said: “I have always wanted to be a headteacher so this is everything that I have ever worked towards. I have loved every moment at Arundel Church of England Primary School. I knew it was the right place for me as soon as I walked through the door.”

Working primarily with the older children at Arundel, Mrs Metcalfe recently moved to early years, where she was praised by colleagues as “a great first teacher for children”.

Staff and children put on a leavers’ assembly to say farewell to their favourite deputy head, who said: “I have been overwhelmed with the amount of kind words from parents and pupils from past and present as it means so much to me.

“I am looking forward to the new challenge and meeting all the new school staff and pupils.”

Arundel headteacher, Andrew Simpson, said: “I hired Nicky when I moved up to be headteacher more than six years ago and I am so glad I did. We became a great team between us. She is such a creative person who is a great teacher. She has helped transform the early years teaching in the school in her time here and she will be sorely missed. We all wish her the best of luck in the future.”
