District council plans to hand over £1.8m to county for expansion of a Chichester school
Chichester District Council plans to hand £1.8m to West Sussex County Council for the expansion of a primary school.
A recommendation from the cabinet on Tuesday (November 4), for work at Portfield Primary Academy, will be put to a meeting of the full council for approval later this month.
If all goes as planned, the money will be released from the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) – a pot paid into by developers to help fund local infrastructure.
The Portfield expansion is Phase 1 of a programme of work in the Chichester area for which £3.45m of CIL money has been provisionally allocated.

Bill Brisbane, cabinet member for planning, said the expansion was needed ‘to address the increased demand for school places’ arising as a result of housing development in the area.
The work is expected to be carried out during the 2026/27 financial year.
