Felpham students bring Bard to life

Its Year 8 students spent two days taking one of the famous writer’s most well-known plays into the 21st century.

They have been studying Much Ado About Nothing this term.

The event offered them the chance to become engaged in the more theatrical aspects of performance and gain a greater understanding of one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays.

The college’s music, drama and English departments combined for the occasion.

The students were able to choose an area in which to specialise to create a full theatrical experience in the tradition Shakespeare would have recognised.

Event co-ordinator Justin Bulpett, an English teacher, said: “Both days were a brilliant success and it was great to see the students so enthusiastic about Shakespeare.

“They really brought what they have been learning in the classroom to life and their performances have shown a real diverse range of talents across the year group.”

Aged 12, the students worked in small groups aided by teachers, Year 10 drama students and sixth formers with the aim of taking Shakespeare beyond the classroom.

They were required to prepare, practise and present performances to their year group.

Those who took part in the event included Tyler-Jay Sampson, Elliott Clarke, Jake Pascoe, Daniel Kearns, Billy Collins and Adam Blakey who are pictured left to right.
