Haywards Heath primary school pupils enjoy virtual performance and leavers barbecue

St Wilfrid’s Primary School in Eastern Road managed to get the pupils together for its planned end of year celebrations, including a performance and barbecue.

Every summer, the children in year six put on a live production for the rest of the school, parents, and carers.

This year, due to the lockdown, pupils put on a virtual performance of Shakespeare Rocks, a comedic take on the life and times of William Shakespeare.

To maintain social distancing, the pupils had already been formed into four bubbles at the school, and each of the four bubbles were filmed performing separately.

The footage from the four bubbles was then edited together to create one final film, which was then shared with their families and carers.

On Friday, July 10, the traditional leavers barbecue was also able to take place on the school’s playing field, with each group staying in designated zones.

Simon Hateley, headteacher, said: “We were so pleased to welcome back our year six children last month and felt it was important to do as much as possible to reward them for all of their incredible hard work over the past seven years.

“As well as academic success, we work hard to offer a strong and nurturing environment, which helps our pupils flourish into confident, caring, and well-rounded individuals, with high hopes and aspirations.

“The end of primary school celebrations are much looked forward to by our pupils, and as well as being lots of fun, they help to provide a sense of closure in preparation for their transition to secondary school.”
