Speaking on behalf of NUT members at Christ’s Hospital School, who themselves will not be striking, Will Wearden said they are in ‘full support’ of the strike action.

He told the County Times: “As a boarding school it is impractical and not the right thing for us to take strike action, but we are in full support of our colleagues at state schools that are doing so.

Teachers do not strike often, it is serious and drastic action taken when things are affecting them and also the future quality of education.

“We are expecting teachers to stay in work until they are 68 - we are going to be stretching a resource ever more and it will affect the quality of education.”
