Littlehampton Academy pupils enjoy day of cultural activities

THE Littlehampton Academy came alive with the sound of music as the school celebrated a day of culture during the European Day of Languages.

About 50 students, from year seven, took part in the afternoon of cultural festivities that gave them all a taster of communities not just in Europe, but across the globe.

Youngsters were thrown into a two-hour bonanza with a host of different activities available, including food tasting, learning basic Portuguese and French, and gaining an insight into Chinese, Indian and Mexican cultures.

The ambitious linguists, who were assisted by some of the academy’s year-11 students, had a chance to learn how to write in Chinese, and how to manufacture traditional French bread.

Some of the youngsters got the chance to show their moves on the dance floor, with a special salsa session, that helped to celebrate the lively, Spanish culture.

It was the school’s third year celebrating the event.

Foreign language teacher, Debra Cauchy-Duval said: “The objectives of the event were to encourage language learning, celebrate our cultural diversity and show the benefits of speaking different languages.

“It was a total success as all the feedback from the students was extremely positive.”
