Pennthorpe School’s headmistress, Alexia Bolton, said she was ‘excited and thrilled’ when the verdict had been delivered as the inspection findings ‘succeeded in capturing the essence of Pennthorpe’.

Mrs Bolton added: ‘‘They acknowledged everything we are striving to achieve for staff, pupils and their families as well as the strong focus on pupil wellbeing and strength in both the academics, sport and creative arts.”

Going on to describe the moment she delivered the result to staff as ‘hands down, the best moment’ of her career so far, she was clearly delighted with the inspectors’ conclusions that the two main areas of ISI interest (Quality of the pupils’ academic and other achievements and Quality of the pupils’ personal development) were both deemed as ‘Excellent’ - the highest classification obtainable.

Mrs Bolton outlined one of Pennthorpe’s main aims was to provide the inspirational environment in which every pupil could experience their own ‘light bulb moment’ on their personal educational journey and acknowledged her passionate, dedicated teaching staff were pivotal in this.

“The inspectors were able to see that the staff were excellent teachers who genuinely care for our children, the enjoyment of their education and their happiness as well as the outcomes of excellence in a wide variety of areas.

‘‘We are aiming to continue enabling all children to be individual and to aspire to be the very best version of themselves they can achieve alongside preparing them for the future, of schooling and beyond.’’

There are currently opportunities to join the senior school as Pennthorpe welcome applications from Year 6 for their Braby Scholarship awards.

The initiative was started three years ago to recognise talent and ability in children moving from Year 6 into Year 7 – whether they are existing Pennthorpe pupils or from other schools.

The scholarships carry both prestige and a monetary award and there are a limited number on offer.
