“We are a small school, and everyone is known, loved and nurtured,” says headteacher Steve Jeffery, who leads the team at this independent school in Worthing.

And small, yet mighty, is the unique selling point at Our Lady of Sion. The Sion journey can start in the Nursery and continue right through to the Sixth Form. The ever-evolving and dynamic curriculum inspires all young people to remain fully engaged in their learning, unlock their potential and achieve outstanding outcomes.

Although they have a fine record in achievement, Steve is proud that the school is not simply an “exam factory”. Young people learn in their own unique ways. Sion education is about connecting with the individual which in turn informs the teacher how to unlock true potential. This personalised partnership is vital in enabling young people to achieve their very best and reach their goals.

Sion’s A Level results speak for themselves. These then open the doors to so many of the finest universities available to them. One of the most attractive things for sixth formers at Sion is the emphasis on preparation for university life, as well as exams. Yes, the well-rounded curriculum delivers everything they need, but the small class sizes mean lessons are tailored to suit within a supportive community environment.

Free time is put to good use – there has been a series of guest speakers including solicitors and those from the aviation industry to inspire careers, while practical lessons involve cooking, banking and car maintenance, helping produce young adults with practical and social skills for the world beyond school. Sixth Formers are encouraged to volunteer in the community or in their professional fields of interest. They actively support the school’s leadership team in providing events throughout the year which inspire charity support and community service.

What makes Sion special?

So many things! From the youngest age your children will love the small class sizes, while parents will appreciate the flexibility of wrap around childcare and third party holiday club. Then there are the trips – day visits and educational excursions in line with the curriculum – or simply the chance to swap the classroom for the beachfront for the day for lessons by the sea.

The caring ethos of the school makes for a warm and friendly environment, and the flexibility around lesson planning and delivery ensures it is fun too. Being known means that a child’s experience will be tailored to ensure that the full echelons of potential are grasped. When a child feels valued and known and the relationship between home and school is strong, outcomes should be spectacular.

Sixth Form

A dedicated sixth form space – VISion – gives the older pupils their own common room and study place, while lesson space is shared with the wider school. This unique set up keeps them fully integrated in school life, yet with their own exclusive break out space.

Graduating from the school’s very own Chapel provides a university experience and sufficiently marks the momentous achievement of the young people.

Open events

After a difficult two years, Our Lady of Sion is delighted to be hosting open events again. After a series of virtual open evenings, the school is hosting daytime events so that parents and prospective pupils can visit to see the school in action. There’s simply no better way to get a feel for a school than to visit, chat to the teaching and support team and see the classroom activities in full swing. There are daily morning tours in the Senior School and Sixth Form from March 21-25, and another Open Morning on May 12.

To reserve a slot for you and your potential sixth former to tour the school, visit https://www.sionschool.org.uk or email [email protected] to book in.
