Teachers feel the end of term (Bohemian) Rhapsody

When it comes to end of term fun, you would be hard-pushed to find a more committed group than the staff at St Wilfrid's School.

Armed with cameras and a quirky sense of humour, over the years they’ve treated the students to their version of Mark Ronson’s Uptown Funk, laid on a bit of One Direction and produced Christmas videos galore.

Now, as students prepare for the summer holiday, headteacher Michael Ferry and his team took to their cars for a bit of Bohemian Rhapsody around the streets of Crawley.

The film took two weeks to put together by technician Josh Smith and was filmed in 10-minute segments during the staff’s free periods.

And they really threw themselves into the project!

Sarah Gildea, the school’s marketing and fundraising co-ordinator, said: “They were directed by Josh to sing as loud as they could and head-bang as much as possible but other than that they were free to improvise.

“Josh then spent around three days editing it with some great bloopers!”

Some of the teachers revealed hidden talents, with one or two impressive singing voices making themselves known. Deputy head Robert Mar even managed to produce a few notes on the ukulele – and at least three of them were in the right order!

Fifty-one of the school’s 65 staff took part in the filming including members of the leadership team, the RE department, the pastoral team, the maths department, drama, music, science, PE, language, business, history, geography and Englishteachers.

Sarah said: “St Wilfrid’s produces many films throughout the year but we like to finish the year with something special to show our wonderful students that teachers are human too and have great senses of humour!”
