West Sussex school exam results 'higher than local and national average'

A West Sussex school has reported GCSE exam results higher than local and national averages.

League tables published by the Department for Education show that pupils at Steyning Grammar School achieved above average results in the summer 2025 GCSE results.

Headteacher Aidan Timmons said: “Steyning Grammar school has been on a strong improvement trajectory over the last few years and was pleased to see it is now one of the strongest schools in the area with results that are above both local and national averages.”

The school, which was rated as ‘Requiring Improvement’ after an Ofsted inspection in 2023, reports that the percentage of students gaining English and Maths at Grade 4+ was 72.1 per cent this summer. The national average was 64.5 per cent and the local authority average was 66.9 per cent.

Headteacher Aidan Timmons added: “The quality of teaching at Steyning Grammar School, revision programme and well-being support for students at SGS is second to none. This has enabled our amazing students to flourish despite their uncertain starts to secondary education during the pandemic.

"We continue to refine and develop teaching and learning and expect further improvement in the future.”
