Year group sent home after Felpham Community College student tests positive Covid-19

The school was notified that a student had tested positive for the virus on Thursday (September 24) and asked the students to self-isolate to minimise risk to the rest of the school.

Headteacher Mark Anstiss said it is a 'significant step to take' but, after speaking with the relevant authorities, decided it was the best course of action.

Mr Anstiss said: "On Thursday September 24 we were informed of a positive Covid-19 case with a year nine student in school. We immediately followed the government protocols and contacted the DfE for further guidance.

"We were also in contact with the Health Protection Team, Public Health England and West Sussex County Council. Following the advice and guidance that was received, the decision was made to ask the whole of the year 9 year group ‘bubble’ to self-isolate at home for 14 days.

"We appreciate that this was a significant step to take, but under the circumstances we felt it was best course of action in order to minimise the risk to all members of the school community.

"The school governors were kept informed and made aware of decision making process. Year 9 students will now have remote lessons provided following their normal timetables at home, which will be a mixture of set work and live virtual lessons. We look forward to welcoming year 9 back to school on Friday October 9."
