Toby Morgan, who runs the Victoria Inn, said people from Chichester to Hastings and even South Africa had got involved, adding: “I’ve been bowled over by the lengths they’ve gone to.” Themes so far have included James Bond and Grease – see our gallery of photos showing people who took part below. Explaining why he started the fancy-dress tradition, Toby said: “It’s a way of making clap for carers a bit of an event and something to look forward to. It’s a bit of a laugh and it shows people are staying at home and making the best out of the situation. The whole idea was to inject a bit of humour into it, while maintaining the serious message. And from a personal perspective, remembering Donna.” Donna, 52, has now spent more than 50 days in intensive care at St Richard’s Hospital in Chichester after contracting coronavirus – read more here. After raising funds to support staff at the hospital, Toby is now on a mission to raise £200,000 to develop a holistic service to support coronavirus patients and their families – and has already raised more than £75,000.
