Eastbourne council has cancelled the Magnificent Motors event, which normally takes place on the first May Bank Holiday weekend, the Beer and Cider By The Sea event, which takes place on the second May Bank Holiday weekend, and the 999 Emergency Services Display, which takes place in July and has been running for 32 years in a row.

An Eastbourne council spokesperson said, “As the current Covid-19 situation continues, the Eastbourne events team are working hard to reschedule early season events where appropriate.

“We have however taken the difficult decision to cancel Magnificent Motors and Beer and Cider By the Sea, with no suitable options for alternate dates.

“In a joint decision with the emergency services, the 999 Emergency Services Display will also understandably not take place, due to the resources required between now and July to plan and stage this event.

“All event participants will be informed over the coming days and ticketholders will be advised of the process for obtaining refunds.

“The council continues to closely monitor the UK government and Public Health England advice and work continues on all other events scheduled to take place this season.”

• NHS advice is to regularly wash your hands, cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze, and try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell. • If you live alone, stay at home for seven days if you have either a high temperature or a new, continuous cough.

• If you live with others and you or one of them have symptoms of coronavirus, then all household members must stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days. The 14-day period starts from the day when the first person in the house became ill

• Call 111 if you feel you cannot cope with your symptoms at home, or your symptoms get worse.
