In pictures: Brighton on second weekend of lockdown

The streets of Brighton were relatively quiet on Saturday, January 16, nearly two weeks after the start of the third national lockdown, on what would ordinarily be a busy day.

Pictures show a mostly quiet North Street, Churchill Square, North Laine and railway station. Under the current lockdown rules, people are urged to stay at home but can leave their house for a number of exceptions. These include shopping for basic necessities, going to work or to volunteer if it cannot be done from home, exercising, childcare, education, and to seek medical assistance or to avoid injury, illness or risk of harm. The government guidelines say that if you do leave home for a permitted reason, you should always stay local, meaning staying in the village, town or part of the city where you live, unless it is necessary to go further, for example to go to work.
