Lewes Coronavirus Volunteers deliver first 100 self-care kits to health workers

The rapidly expanding community group that is supporting Lewesians during the coronavirus pandemic has delivered the first batch of 100 kits, leaving staff at The Foundry delighted.

LCV volunteer Louise Bradley said: “It was a joy to be able to put smiles on faces amongst all this doom and gloom. We can’t wait to do it again.”

The kits contain a breakfast bar, sugar free sweets and gum, hand moisturiser, wet wipes for hands and face, a highlighter pen, a pen and note pad, shower gel, hand wash, deodorant and an energy drink. More will be delivered over the coming days.

Sarah Caulfield, social prescriber for The Foundry, said: “We could not be more grateful to Lewes Coronavirus Volunteers for these incredible self-care kits, delivered yesterday.

“Louise Bradley and her daughters have put such care into creating these and they offer a much-needed morale boost to our incredible teams. The support offered to us by Lewes Coronavirus Volunteers throughout these difficult times has been outstanding. Thank you so much. What great community spirit.”

Lewes Coronavirus Volunteers was set up eight weeks ago by local town planner Emma Amies.

The group now has 1,200 members and more than 650 volunteers providing help to anyone in Lewes who is vulnerable or in need as a result of Covid-19.

They launched a crowdfunding appeal last week with a target of £30,000.

The funds will go towards supporting three food banks in Lewes, via the group’s ‘hub’ at Trinity Church.

It will directly support NHS frontline staff and carers, the group said.

Meanwhile, it will build a database of professionals who can offer well-being, mental health, financial and legal advice.

And it will invest in infrastructure such as an improved website and database.
