The Horsham District Wellbeing Service and the Prevention Assessment Team will be offering free health checks and wellbeing MOT’s at RSPB Pulborough Brooks (on the A283 between Pulborough and Storrington) on Wednesday May 15 and Wednesday May 29, from 10am to 4pm.

The health checks focus on preventing major causes of illness, such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes and kidney disease. These conditions are often avoidable and can be easily managed, and a health check could help to identify any potential issues before a problem develops.

The appointment lasts for half an hour and includes a blood pressure check, a finger-prick of blood for a cholesterol test, and a discussion about family history, and assessment of lifestyle factors (such as smoking) and levels of physical activity.

The health checks aim to help people make lifestyle choices to improve their health for the future. They are confidential and must be booked in advance. They are available for anyone aged between 40 and 74 years old without an existing long-term condition.

Wellbeing MOTs are open to anyone over the age of 18 and help people to look at their lifestyle and any changes they want to make. It looks at weight and body mass index, muscle mass, bone mass, hydration, physical activity and metabolic age. An appointment isn’t needed for a wellbeing MOT – residents can just drop in to the session.

West Sussex County Council cabinet member for community wellbeing, which includes Public Health, Christine Field said: “The health checks and wellbeing MOT’s are completely free and are there to help identify any possible health problems early, which can make a real difference in years to come.”
