Funded by Public Health West Sussex, Adur & Worthing Councils’ alcohol wellbeing service went live in January and three weight management courses for men begin in February.
Val Turner, executive member for health and wellbeing in Worthing, added: “Our brand-new alcohol wellbeing service is about enabling people who are somewhat aware they need to make a change to their drinking behaviour, but aren’t sure how, to do so.

People aged 18 and over who want to reduce their drinking can have up to six free one-to-one sessions with a trained wellbeing adviser.
The aim is to support people whose drinking has increased but who are not dependent on alcohol, with sessions held over the phone and via email, in line with the current Covid guidelines and restrictions.
Kevin Boram, executive member for health and wellbeing in Adur, said: “All of the programmes run by our fantastic wellbeing team provide each person taking part with the support and guidance they need to achieve their goals, which can be difficult to do alone, especially after potentially overindulging during the festive period.

The new weight management courses for men complement the popular general weight management courses which the councils have been offering for a number of years.
The new 12-week courses have been designed to help men tackle their weight through healthy eating and activity, and will be run solely online until it is safe to resume physical sessions again, at which point there will be a mix.
