The year the Red Barrows won the battle for smiles on the streets of Sussex

Big crowds lined the streets as the sun and clouds fought for domination of the skies but on the ground it was the Red Barrows formation mobility scooter team from the RAF Benevolent Fund’s Princess Marina House which won the battle for smiles, even if their bid for trophies went empty-handed.

The stylish application of Hairspray earned the Best in Parade award for the Lorna Benson School of Dance in the Rustington Carnival procession of June 2010. And the young entertainers went further than merely looking great on the trailer of a huge American truck – they also performed numbers from the popular musical on their way through the village.

Other prizes went to the clowns of Rustington Players, winners of the adult decorative category, the Mod Mums for best adult humorous group, TS Implacable, best band, and Lorna Benson School of Dance, also judged best youth decorative float.
