Enchanted abseil in Arundel raising funds for Winston's Wish

AN enchanted abseil will take place next weekend to help bereaved children.

Winston’s Wish is hosting the event at Arundel Castle on Saturday, March 23.

More than 100 people are expected to abseil 184ft down the Bakehouse Tower as their favourite enchanted characters.

A team of instructors will be on hand with abseiling taking place from 9am to 4pm and lots of activities on offer for those cheering on the participants.

Anyone aged 13 and over can take part for a deposit of £15 and a minimum pledge of £150 per person in sponsorship is needed.

Kerri Harrison, from Bognor Regis, has already signed up for the event.

“I am doing this for my best friend, who died in September and left a beautiful three-year-old little girl,” she said.

“Her family decided after her death that they wanted to support Winston’s Wish and help bereaved children who haven’t got the support of a loving family to take care of them after losing a parent.

“My aim is to raise awareness of this wonderful charity so that we can raise lots of money.”

Nathaniel Slade, Matt Gell and Richard Lucas from Arundel Fire Station have also registered.

“Thankfully we’ve no personal connection with the work of the charity, but as Matt and myself have become dads in the last year, as well as firefighters, we have a better appreciation now of the value of the work the charity does,” said Richard.

Louise Brown, from Winston’s Wish, said: “We are looking forward to this exciting event and with your support we can help bereaved children and young people to tackle their fears of an uncertain future as they learn to live with their grief.

“Every penny raised will go towards the vital work that we do with bereaved children, young people and their families.

“You are guaranteed to have an experience you’ll never forget and a story to remember.”
