I taste-tested Wingstop's new fiery flavour and this is why it could not be more aptly named
Eating spicy foods is not a habit I can get used to.
I liked things a bit spicy - I may go from a Korma to a Jalfrezi every so often – but I am not fan of sweating while I eat.
That is why I accepted the invitation to have a sneak peak at a new flavour popular chicken restaurant Wingstop with fear and trepidation.
The new Dragon’s Breath coating and, to be frank, sounded absolutely terrifying.

Tapping into the 'swicy' trend, Dragon’s Breath delivers a layered flavour experience that taps into, blending a rich smokiness with subtle sweetness that builds into a bold, savoury finish.
Dragon’s Breath joins 10 other iconic flavours on the Wingstop menu and is available to be hand-sauced-and-tossed across wings, tenders, boneless and the chicken burger.
And if you are familiar with Wingstop’s heat index, the new flavour sits above Original and below Mango Habanero in the ‘hot’ section – and it deserves that placing.
I went for some wings and tenders and the first bite was fine. It was tangy and sweet and the initial thought was ‘it’s not that bad’.
Then the heat hits your throat and you start to question your life choices. After about the fifth wing, I started to lose the feeling in my tongue and throat. Some people will probably not be affected at all by the new flavour and find it a delightful experience, but I am not one of those people!
And why is Dragon’s Breath so aptly named? When I spoke to breathed afterwards, I could feel the heat exiting my mouth. It could be one of those things I was imagining, but it was a genuinely unnerving – and surely not natural - to have that much heat coming out of my mouth.
I finished the wings but could only manage one and a half of the tenders, it was simply too much for my palette. And once your taste buds have been burnt off, what’s the point?!
Like I said, this new flavour will be right up some people’s street and I hope they can savour it more than I was able to.
The new limited-time flavour is available for 12 weeks only.
Emma Colquhoun, Chief Growth Officer at Wingstop UKI said: “Dragon's Breath is everything a limited drop should be. Our fans don't just order wings; they choose a flavour that fits their mood and we've spent months making sure this one delivers. Rich smokiness, subtle sweetness, heat that builds with every bite. It's dramatic, it's bold, and it's the kind of flavour that starts conversations. Only here for twelve weeks. don't miss out."
Emma is not wrong. If you try out Dragon’s Breath, let us know what you think on the relevant post on the Crawley Observer Facebook page.
