Forefront of modern folk

Moulettes are bringing their charismatic, idiosyncratic brand of modern folk music to The Stade Open Space, Hastings, Saturday, July 13.

Their music incorporates elements of progressive and alternative rock, pop, and classical, and has bewitched crowds at many festivals including Glastonbury, Bestival, Larmer Tree and Latitude.

Sensuous harmonies and a tight instrumental mix betray the fact that they have been together since their mid-teens.

They released their debut album in 2010, which found its way on to several Best Of The Year lists.

They also won an Innovation Award from the Fatea roots-music website.

Ex-Moulette Ted Dwane, now of Mumford and Sons, recently returned to the fold to help record the group’s latest collection, The Bear’s Revenge.

Robin Denselow, of The Guardian, wrote of Moulettes: “Moulettes are among the frontrunners of the new British acoustic scene thanks to their sophisticated, unpredictable approach, matching exquisite female harmony vocals against complex swirling backing.”

The performance starts at 7.30pm.
