Halloween half term at Borde Hill

Halloween half term at Borde Hill in amongst the golden hues of autumn

This Halloween half term, little witches and wizards are invited to Borde Hill in West Sussex for a spellbinding family day out, as The Owl Who Stole Halloween brings magical mischief, spooky surprises and autumn adventure to the Garden.

Something spooky is stirring in Pumpkin Patch Meadow, where mischievous owl Morticus Moonfeather has been casting magical spells on the scarecrows and turning their Halloween preparations into hilarious chaos.

Families can follow the trail through the historic Garden, meeting the enchanted scarecrows and taking on a series of fun games and challenges along the way. Can they uncover Morticus’s mischief and break the spell before the Halloween Party is ruined? The Owl Who Stole Halloween runs daily from Saturday 17th October to Sunday 1st November 2026, 10am–5pm.

To join the adventure, it’s free for members, or £3.50 per child plus Garden admission. Adults £13.95, Concessions £12.95, Children (3–16 years) £8.95, Family (1 adult + up to 3 children) £31.85, Family (2 adults + up to 3 children) £45.80. Under 3s and carers go free.

HALLOWEEN HALF TERM ACTIVITIES, from 11am Alongside the trail, Borde Hill is conjuring up a bewitching programme of Halloween activities during half term, taking place inside the Garden Marquee.

On Monday 26th October, Professor Hiccup will entertain young audiences with 30- minute Magic Shows filled with tricks and visual effects. On Tuesday 27th October, children can get creative by crafting and decorating their own wooden wand, ready for casting spooky spells.

The fun continues on Wednesday 28th October with Halloween silliness and magic from Tomfoolery, before a day of drop-in Halloween crafts on Thursday 29th October, where families can make pinecone mice, pumpkin masks and other seasonal creations. Then, on Friday 30th October, Nature Nurture Sussex invites children to get hands-on making Spooky Spiders and Slithering Snakes using sustainable wood, craft materials and simple child-safe hand tools.

Additional charges apply for selected activities and spaces are limited, so advance booking is recommended. Halloween crafts on Thursday 29th October are included with Garden admission and do not require booking. Find out more at: https://bordehill.co.uk/halloween-activities

Autumn is also one of the most atmospheric times to explore Borde Hill. Across the Garden and wider estate, cornus, acers, liquidambar and deciduous azaleas bring rich shades of gold, amber and scarlet to the landscape. Families can pull on their wellies and explore further afield, taking in woodland walks, lakes and panoramic views across the heritage-listed Parkland and Sussex High Weald.
