The RSPB is inviting everyone to get involved in their annual bird count, which this year runs from January 29-31, and you can sign up online at www.rspb.org.uk/get-involved/activities/birdwatch/. The Sussex Wildlife Trust says you might spot robins, short-eared owl, and mixed flocks of tits and finches, among other wildlife this month. A spokesman said: “Whilst some species are safe, snugly tucked away in hibernation, a few hardy creatures are battling through the winter winds hoping for some spring sunshine to emerge. Why not help them by leaving out some extra food? You could be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of some more unusual garden visitors such as redwing and fieldfare or even a waxwing.”
