New festival ends summer in style

The Big Green Cardigan, Hawkhurst Road, Cripps Corner, Friday, September 2 until Sunday, September 4. Weekend ticket £50, Day tickets £15-£30.

CATTLE are back grazing on the green pastures of Worthy Farm in Glastonbury, volunteers have cleared the bottles and burnt tents of Reading and Leeds, and Prince fans have returned to their lives after a pilgrimage to Hop Farm.

But the festival season is not over yet.

After nearly two years of organisation, the first ever Big Green Cardigan is finally here and ready to rock the East Sussex countryside this weekend.

Built from the legacy of the highly acclaimed Black Horse Festival and the ongoing Mrs Yarrington’s Music Club, the new music festival boasts a memorable weekend of quality live music with a small and intimate vibe.

Starting today (Friday) and concluding on Sunday, hundreds of festival-goers can expect a line up of more than 20 artists, spanning two stages, including a hand-picked selection of local and international favourites, covering all genres of music.

Tonight (gates open at 6pm) features the likes of Aurora, Belgian outfit Le Trio Perdu and local band The Hustlers.

Martin Riddlington, lead singer of The Hustlers, told The Observer: “To play at the inaugural Big Green Cardigan festival is an exciting opportunity for us and gives us an opportunity to create a set with a few surprises thrown into the pot.”

Saturday (gates 10am) sees Aynsley Lister and Kangaroo Moon headlining, with lively favourites Baka Beyond and Grammy nominee Jerry Harmon playing out the festival on Sunday.

To whet whistles, the festival will feature a bar stocked with 15 different real ales, Sussex-brewed lagers and ciders, and wine supplied by Sedlescombe Vineyard.

Speaking of the build up to the festival, organiser Mick Hoad said: “There’s been a lot of excitement and everyone’s really looking forward to it.

“Day tickets for both the music and the camping are still available on the gate.”
