Inside bright, new-look Worthing shop as ribbon is cut for re-opening following major refurbishment

Customers queued to see a Worthing shop's new look following a major refurbishment over Christmas.

The bright, smart refurbishment of Worthing Samaritans' charity shop, in Strand Parade, was revealed on Monday, January 12.

Alderman Lionel Harman cut the ribbon at 9am, watched by a crowd of customers keen to see inside the shop.

Shop manager Georgina Rickwood said the new flooring and lighting had given the shop a much brighter look.

New windows have given more space for shelves either side of the door and the serving counter has been moved to the front of the shop, creating more space for people to browse.

Staff and volunteers worked hard over the Christmas period to make it ready. Georgina said their hard work had made it a more vibrant and attractive environment for shoppers and workers.

Worthing town crier Bob Smytherman heralded the re-opening of the shop, saying: “They've been here for a number of years but they've had an amazing refit. It looks absolutely amazing.”

The shop has been an important part of the Durrington community for decades, supporting the work of the branch's listening volunteers.
