1,700 hit by power cut

EDF Energy has apologised for a power failure in Lewes on Monday and into Tuesday that caused about 1,700 customers in the Mount Harry Road and Offham Road area to lose power.

The fault on the electricity distribution network happened at about 8.30am on Monday.

EDF Energy Networks engineers managed to restore supplies to more than 1,000 customers within 20 minutes and to some 700 others by 3pm, leaving 14 customers without electricity until about 5,30pm on Tuesday.

A spokesman said: 'Restoring supplies to the last remaining customers proved difficult because of the configuration of overhead lines and underground cables.

'Our customer relations department will be writing to those worst affected to further apologise.'
