A brilliant effort for Children in Need

A great combined effort saw everyone from local school children to shop staff and members of a day centre for the elderly dressing up and entering into the spirit of the annual event, which has so far raised more than £37.1 million.

Children and staff at Little Common School donned superhero costumes and Pudsey accessories to raise money for the appeal. Pudsey visited all the children throughout the day and pupils were invited to place money on a large Pudsey shape. A coffee morning for parents and staff, as well as a raffle, raised a grand total of £846.94.

Youngsters from Babyballet at Hastings and Bexhill and Just Dance Studios enjoyed dancing in pyjamas to raise £302.55.

Staff at Asda, in St Leonards, dressed up in either sports or super hero outfits and held a tombola in store to raise £240.

Hastings Direct staff soared into action to raise an impressive £8,176 for the charity.

Dressed as their favourite childhood heroes, staff took part in a virtual row and cycle across Hastings Direct’s four sites, as teams from Bexhill, Leicester, Newmarket and Gibraltar covered thousands of virtual miles. Co-workers donated money through sponsorship and charity buckets hoping to smash last year’s cash total.

Hastings Group CEO, Gary Hoffman jumped on his bike at 8am on Friday morning, dressed as Dennis the Menace, to cycle for over an hour alongside his colleagues. He commented; “Once again, we pulled out all the stops to support this worthwhile cause and I am delighted with the fantastic amount that has been raised this year.”

On Sunday November 8, Chris and Philippa Davey of St Francis Farm, Potmans Lane, Bexhill, ran their annual show jumping show in aid of Children in Need to raise £365..

This year’s event featured clear round jumping along with two classes; pairs and a progression class. The whole event was organised to include riders and horses of all ages and abilities. There was also a raffle, cake sale and hot dogs.

The Nan Wilding Day Centre, in Bexhill, held a Children in Need fund raising day last Wednesday when fancy dress was the order for the day. With a raffle, cake sale and sponsored sea front walk in the rain on Saturday, dressed in Pudsey Bear onesies, they raised a total of £458.41.

Organiser Christina Chinn said: “I would like to thank all my volunteer helpers for their continuing support. They just get on with whatever I throw at them, and laugh their way through the day. I could not do it without them, We make a great team.”
