A love of the history of their local landscape

Chichester exhibition

Jane Brunning and Margaret Jones combine for their first joint exhibition at Chichester’s Oxmarket Contemporary.

The show runs from September 15-27 under the title Landschap, the old Dutch word that launched the concept of landscape art.

The work is influenced by their love of the history of their local landscape.

A spokesman said: “Although they share the same traditional weaving process, their artistic styles are markedly different. Margaret's award-winning work is known for its painterly blending of coloured yarns, while Jane's tapestries use richly textured fibres to create tactile surfaces. Together, their work moves beyond conventional landscape, revealing the emotion, history and hidden structures of the Sussex countryside, inviting viewers to experience familiar places in new and unexpected ways.

“Both Jane and Margaret trained at West Dean College, moving on to work at the professional tapestry studio at West Dean. They teach together at Jane’s studio in Angmering, offering a range of options from beginners to continuing professional development.

“Jane has travelled, taking inspiration from the landscapes of areas like Mongolia, Peru and locally weaving it into her creative practice. On the other hand, Margaret travels in her head, absorbing the myth and folklore of local areas.”
