Our Alternative Village Green Day on Southwick Green on Saturday, 11am to 4pm, features lots of treats, including performance-parkour from the world-renowned Urban Playground.

This team is the original performance-parkour company, combining urban and contemporary dance with authentic French free-running. The group has taught and toured across five continents for clients including the British Council and appeared on BBC1’s Blue Peter and Sky1’s Got To Dance.

Members of the UPG team, supported by South East Dance, are’playtime artists’ at Pavilion Dance South West and are described by the BBC as ‘extreme sport and cutting edge theatre’.

In the lead up to the Adur Festival performance, the UPG team has been holding workshops with local young people aged between ten and 21, to create original, new choreographic scenes to play alongside the professional company in the performance of the piece STEAM. The show combines physical theatre with slapstick comedy on a fast-paced locomotive ride.

One of the aims of the festival is to get young people who may not usually engage in the arts to take part. To assist in this, the festival has been working with Think Family, part of The Family Intervention Project (FIP), which supports vulnerable families with a history of poor engagement with services.

The team will be performing two shows during the day which are sure to be an eye-catching spectacle. The Adur Festival is stop four on the STEAM Local Line Tour, which then travels to six more venues across the country. Visit theurbanplayground.co.uk or facebook.com/steamlocalline for more details.

Also on Saturday, we have the wonderful Al Start and the Beastie Band performing Excellent Songs for Children live at Ropetackle Arts Centre, Shoreham.

In a change to the details published in our printed programme, this show will now be on at 11am not 2pm, £7 per person, £26 for a family ticket.

For more details about the show visit gokidmusic.com and to book tickets, contact ropetacklecentre.co.uk.

Children’s songwriter Al brings her fantastic folk roots band, with banjo, guitars, mandolin, ukulele, bass, drums and loads of audience participation, to give children the chance to experience a proper gig with real music that parents will love, too. The duration is approximately 60 minutes, so you have plenty of time to come on down to Southwick Green afterwards and round off the day of entertainment.
