Alarm service will offer independence

Those with dementia or learning difficulties and their carers in Arun will be given peace of mind through a new GPS-linked personal alarm service.

Arun Lifeline, a service provided through Arun District Council, is offering the new Mindme alarms to rent from next month.

Paul Wotherspoon, Arun’s cabinet member for community development, said: “By using the latest technology, we are able to offer a new service to residents and help to give carers much-needed peace of mind and additional freedom to those with dementia or learning disabilities.

“With the unit, if an individual gets separated from their carers or in confusion wanders away, family or carers can help locate them by calling an adviser at the call centre.

“The Mindme service is easy to use and the unit is small enough to be unobtrusive. For the lone worker, it can help reduce the sense of isolation.”

The mobile unit, which can fit easily in the palm of your hand, can be easily carried in a coat pocket, worn with a cord or attached to a key ring and is linked to a 24/7, Chichester-based manned call centre.
