Aldwick cadets strike up band with new instruments

CADETS in Aldwick will soon be playing with pride as they learn on their new musical instruments.

The TS Montrose members were presented with a range of drums, cymbals, trumpets and other instruments thanks to a £5,000 grant from Aldwick Parish Council.

They immediately started to get to grips ahead of their first formal practice later this month.

Commanding officer Yvonne Brooker said: “It’s really important for us to have this equipment.

“There are quite a lot of parades in which we can take part each year and we will certainly be up and running for this year’s Remembrance Day.”

The grant was the largest the corps, based at Rose Green Junior School, has received since it was formed 18 months ago. Some of the money is being used to buy harnesses for the equipment and a mace for the drum major.

The band includes 24 of the 25 members, aged eight to 11, of the Nautical Training Corps unit.
