Aldwick parish sets up working party

A working party has been set up by Aldwick Parish Council to determine its response to the proposals for St Richard's Hospital.

Council member Lilian Richardson, an NHS professional, has been chosen to lead the group.

Its first meeting will be held on August 6 before the public will be invited to have their say about the issue.

Cllr Dr Jim Ramage, the council chairman, said: 'This is the most important thing the parish council has in front of it this year. We have to fight this battle for our residents. They need to have their views put forward.'

He urged all 14 councillors to get involved with the deliberations with the intention of producing a draft response to the consultations in August.

Arun District Council leader Cllr Gill Brown, who represents Aldwick East, said: 'Our position is that the status quo of hospital services is the absolute minimum we will accept.

'We are looking at 58,000 extra homes being built in the county in the next 20 years. We certainly do not want hospital cover taken away, completely the opposite.'
